That severe fracture

A severe fracture in society today is our inability to see the intrinsic dignity and worth of the human person in front of us. Knowing they are no different than me in my capacity to do good and my capacity to commit the worst, just the same.

We impart judgement quicker than we notice our own suffocation in prejudices. We say we are non-judgemental, but that quickly dissipates the second we dismiss or “cut” people out so quick. Typically, out of an inconvenience, difference in perspective, or lifestyle.

[Of course, there is a distinction to be made here for truly toxic or abusive individuals, and good distance and detachment is more than required.]

So why hold off on cutting people out the minute they don’t “suit us”?
What arrogance.

Because more times than not, we don’t know where a person has been, and how they got where they are. And quite frankly, we can all use a bit of grace and breathing room to get up off the ground from a mistake or a difference, be it lifestyle, politics, or religion.

So I say, to hell with all those reels and mantras that tell us to discard one another as a worthless object.

Let’s try to humble ourselves enough to leave the door open and be surprised by the human person in front of us over time. A subject.
And time speaks volumes.

I mean, who do we think we are, some type of aristocratic finger waging god or goddess?
Relax.
