In surrender, we become

I was walking, thinking, dreaming and reflecting as I always do amid these trees. I’ve been to this spot in the winter, spring, summer and autumn. I’ve seen the beautiful pines, the Trilliums, the weeds, the chipmunks, beetles and snakes. They get hit with the harshness of the winds, the hail, the snow, the thunder, etc.

Branches break, flowers wilt, soil rots, birds die, stones erode, etc. But all these funereal events, natural in the strictest sense of the word, push forth. They have not the will to protest against decay or brutality. But in their surrender, they become.

They become so beautiful.
They become life-giving.
They become the source new life.
They become a source of healing and re-storing.

As I was walking amid the trees, I was struggling with a certain hurt, a “brokenness” so to speak. And my natural attempt to control it, as I have discovered, is something I must learn daily to surrender. Because. There is always decay and suffering. It’s our human condition. But in our surrender, there is new life, healing and a new chance to become.
