With each day, I am increasingly grateful for the spiritual friends I have gained that help me grow in Faith, Hope, and above all, Charity. Charity, as in the highest form of what we conceive as love. It’s not just a help. It’s a challenge. To strive for something beyond me, beyond my own natural abilities with my own brokenness. 

Today is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a figure who is often romanticized. But when you peel back that sentimentality, there is a man who “peeled back those outer rinds” in order to get at the sweet kernel (to use Teresa of Avila’s words). A man who grew in simplicity in order to gain the pearl of greatest price. A man who, through surrender, was perfected in Charity. 

A man fully alive. 

A saint. Now my intercessor.
